The Antidote

I am a yarn lover! The feel, the look, the fiber. Going to a yarn store beats all the other stores. It's like medicine for the soul. But what do you do when the yarn is too good? When you think that whatever you will make out of this material is not good enough? This happened to me when a friend treated me to 1 oz. of Qiviut which she bought in Alaska. Qiviut yarn is made out of the extremely fine under hair of musk ox. It is eight times warmer than sheep's wool by weight and it will not felt! Most people will never have the chance to even come close to this fiber since the production is so low.
Well I was lucky and over the weekend on our trip to Chicago I knitted a pair of beaded wristwarmers. I enjoyed every inch of this fiber gold and even the very small 2 mm needles and stringing almost 1000 beads onto the yarn excited me!
Knitting is my antidote! It gives me pride in my work and the ability to apply hard -earned expertise to the creation of something truly special and unique. To make something by hand is a connection in a disconnected world.

I like beaded work too, although I've only done one cardigan - yet!

Hope your trip was awesome!

I'm off to the country, today or tomorrow.
